Richard Peters was a businessman in the 1830s and 1840s. He owned a lot of land in the area that is now Atlanta, Georgia. At that time, Atlanta was not a big city. It was mostly wilderness with very few people.
Peters had a big dream. He wanted to bring the railroad to his land. He worked hard to convince railroad companies to build tracks through the area. When the Western & Atlantic Railroad came, it changed everything.
Peters also built roads, mills, and shops on his land. He sold land to other people who wanted to start businesses. Slowly, the wilderness became a busy town. Peters made a lot of money from his land investments.
Because of Peters and other businessmen like him, Atlanta grew from a small settlement into an important city. The railroad made Atlanta a place where people could travel and do business easily. Peters helped create one of America's major cities.
