Samuel Hartlib was a scholar. He lived from about 1600 to 1662. He was born in Germany, but he moved to England.
Hartlib knew many smart people in Europe. They wrote letters to each other. This group was called the Hartlib Circle. It was not a formal group. It was just friends who shared ideas.
The group talked about farming, education, and science. They wanted knowledge to help people in real life. Famous members included John Milton and Comenius, a teacher.
Hartlib was not a famous scientist himself. He was more like an organizer. He helped people share information.
Later, his ideas helped start the Royal Society in 1660. This was an important science group in London. Today, we can still read Hartlib's letters at the University of Sheffield.
