NASA's Return to the Moon

In 1969, humans walked on the moon for the first time. This was called the Apollo mission. The last person walked on the moon in 1972. After that, no one went back for many years.

Now, NASA wants to return to the moon. But this time is different. NASA does not want a short visit. NASA wants people to live and work there for a long time.

The moon has ice! This ice is water. Astronauts can use it for drinking. They can also turn it into oxygen and rocket fuel. This is very useful.

Why does NASA want to go to the moon again? The moon helps NASA prepare for Mars. Scientists can test new technology on the moon first. It is safer than testing on Mars.

The moon has weak gravity. It is easier to launch rockets from the moon than from Earth. So the moon could become a fuel station for trips to deep space.
