In a family, parents may treat the first child differently from other children. The oldest child gets a lot of attention at first. Later, middle and youngest children grow up with siblings around them. This can change how they learn to talk, share, and solve problems.

Sisters and brothers help each other learn social skills. They learn to cooperate and solve small fights together. This is an important part of growing up.
